Facebook page owners will receive notification that their badges are going away from pages later this month.
The company says that they are focussing on other ways for businesses to show their authenticity on Facebook.
Difference between Blue Badge and Grey Badge
If you see a blue badge on a Facebook page or Facebook profile, it means that Facebook confirmed that this is the genuine Facebook page or Facebook profile for this public figure, media company or brand.
If you see a grey badge on a Facebook page, it means Facebook has assured that this is a genuine Facebook page for this business or company or organisation.
As of next month, grey badges will be gone while the platform retains blue badges.
Why is Facebook making this change?
The decision was based on feedback from users who were confused about what the grey badge represented. With two different versions available, it could be confusing for some users to distinguish between a blue tick verified page and a page that’s gone through the more basic ID process for a grey one.
Now that the badges are being removed from the platform, businesses have to put some additional effort to prove their page’s authenticity – making sure the profile page is complete with up-to-date information, a profile picture and correct contact information.
