The social media giant has revamped its Messenger app for iOS platform with a new design focused on simplicity, size and speed. This “faster, smaller and simpler” version of Messenger is expected to roll out over the coming weeks. The new update enables the app to load twice as fast and will be a quarter of its original size. That means it’ll start, download and update more quickly for everyone, even people who have older devices or are in areas with lower connectivity.
The company simplified the Messenger code by 84% going from 1.7 million lines of code to 360,000. “ While we kept most of the features, we will continue to introduce more features over time. Fewer lines of code make the app lighter and more responsive, and a streamlined codebase means engineers can innovate more quickly.” the company said in a statement.
Also, the available features in Messenger have been refurbished to this new and simplified version. The update might temporarily remove some features from the platform, but the company says it’s working to bring them back soon. Though Facebook has not yet revealed what features will become unavailable, it is reported that the new version of the app will not contain the Discover tab. However, users can still see features that were earlier available in the Discover tab.
The update is rolling out to users soon and all messenger users on iOS will want to keep your eye on the update.
