Instagram is finally removing the IGTV button from the top right corner of the app’s home screen. The company says it decided to drop the button after finding that relatively few people were using it.
Most people are finding IGTV content through previews in Feed, the IGTV channel in explore, creators’ profiles and the standalone app. “Very few are clicking into the IGTV icon in the top right corner of the home screen in the Instagram app ”
IGTV was launched in 2018 to watch videos that are longer than 60 seconds, which means that the platform could go head to head with YouTube. But unfortunately, nothing has happened as expected.
As you know, long videos are expensive to create and Facebook-owned Instagram has not implemented a way for creators to earn revenue from that content. Perhaps this can be one of the reasons why users have shown less interest in IGTV.
If you are a fan of IGTV, you can still download the dedicated app to watch long-form vertical videos from your favourite creators.
